Pictures of the 1999 Solar Eclipse

The 11 August 1999 saw the last total eclipse of the millennium. I was fortunate enough to witness this spectacular event on holiday with my family in France. Totality lasted around two minutes.

These pictures were taken on the north coast of France on the chalk cliffs at Etretat. They were all recorded on a Digital VCR then frame grabbed. The time shown on the picture is French local time so take off 1 hour to adjust for B.S.T.

The first image was taken through a Mylar filter from a chopped up pair of Eclipse glasses, hence the blue tint. The larger images of the eclipse show a projected image from a telescope onto a sheet of paper. The last couple of pictures were taken through an eclipse filter. Note the church steeple seen in the final picture.
